{"id":46,"date":"2013-01-13T15:17:15","date_gmt":"2013-01-13T14:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eggblog.invertedegg.com\/?p=46"},"modified":"2013-01-13T15:17:15","modified_gmt":"2013-01-13T14:17:15","slug":"upgrading-from-ubuntu-12-04-precise-pangolin-to-12-10-quantic-quetzal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/eggblog.invertedegg.com\/?p=46","title":{"rendered":"Upgrading from Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) to 12.10 (Quantic Quetzal)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just some notes on some of the issues I hit in updating from Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) to 12.10 (Quantic Quetzal), in the event they&#8217;re of use to someone.<\/p>\n<h2>Problems with PHP Initialization<\/h2>\n<p>I was receiving a ton of errors from cron, with the text:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>PHP Warning:\u00c2\u00a0 PHP Startup: Unable to load dynamic library &#8216;\/usr\/lib\/php5\/20100525\/pam_auth.so&#8217; &#8211; \/usr\/lib\/php5\/20100525\/pam_auth.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory in Unknown on line 0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While there appears to be a line of thought (via Google) that one needs to install php5-auth-pam or php5-pam &#8230; I didn&#8217;t find either package with a simple apt-get install, and didn&#8217;t bother investigating further.<\/p>\n<p>The actual fix was to check \/etc\/php5\/conf.d. \u00c2\u00a0In that folder was a legacy (few years old) pam_auth.ini file which was attempting to load pam_auth.so. \u00c2\u00a0Removing this file enabled PHP to start.<\/p>\n<h2>WordPress Hiccough<\/h2>\n<p>WordPress sites didn&#8217;t want to start up for me, \u00c2\u00a0claiming a missing wp-config.php. \u00c2\u00a0When I checked \/etc\/wordpress, I found that my old wp-config.php has been copied to a typical wp-config.php.dpkg-bak &#8230; but no new file had been installed. \u00c2\u00a0I just replaced back my old copy.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just some notes on some of the issues I hit in updating from Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) to 12.10 (Quantic Quetzal), in the event they&#8217;re of use to someone.
